Universal Music will release a Rolling Stones album via a one-project deal. The band has been with EMI since 1991, but Billboard reports that their deal expires this spring. The new album, due in March, is the soundtrack to the band’s concert film Shine A Light. Following in April is the Martin Scorsese directed movie, shot at New York’s Beacon Theatre in fall 2006, and featuring special guests Buddy
Guy, White Stripes’ Jack White and Christina Aguilera.Universal Music owns the 1963-1970 Rolling Stones catalog. Everything released since then is owned by the Stones, and has been released by EMI/Virgin since 1991. That could change after the agreement with EMI/Virgin ends. In recent years, huge artists Paul McCartney and Radiohead have also left the label which is undergoing a restructuring.
